Temporary high-capacity cooling for live retail operations

Delivering large-scale temporary cooling in a live retail environment under tight time and space constraints
A mechanical contractor working on a major plant upgrade at Midland Gate Shopping Centre required a high-capacity temporary cooling system to support operations through the peak pre-Christmas trading period.
The system needed to provide 760kW of cooling, maintain comfort across all public areas, and avoid any disruption to shoppers or tenants. Installation posed several challenges. The solution had to fit within a restricted footprint, integrate directly with existing chilled water pipework, and be installed outside trading hours to preserve normal operations.
Timing and execution were critical. The upgrade works could not interrupt business continuity or compromise the customer experience during one of the centre’s busiest commercial periods.

A 760kW cooling system integrated on-site without disrupting operations
Aircon Hire delivered a complete turnkey cooling package, designed to meet technical and operational demands. We supplied a 760kW chiller with all required ancillaries, including power cabling, hose sets and custom mechanical pipework with integrated valve sets. The system was engineered to connect directly into the shopping centre’s chilled water infrastructure, allowing it to take over seamlessly while the permanent plant was offline.
All installation and commissioning were completed outside regular trading hours to maintain site access and avoid disruption to tenants or shoppers. Throughout the six-month hire, we provided 24/7 support to ensure system reliability and give the contractor complete confidence that cooling performance would be maintained from start to finish.
